My System Specs
- Dell Latitude D420
- Core Solo CPU @ 1.06GHz
- 1GB RAM
- Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5752 Gigabit Ethernet
- Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
- Intel Mobile 945GM Express Integrated Graphics Controller (see below)
- Intel HDA SigmaTel STAC9200 Sound Controller (static)
So, the test went mostly good. I had problems loading the live cd at first, but it turned out that it was just a bad burn. I ran the Hardware Test located in System -> Administration and sent the results to launchpad.
Sound doesn’t work correctly, all I get is static.
Desktop Effects are disabled by default, which hasn’t been the case in the last couple major releases. When enabled, desktop effects work flawlessly on my hardware, and as with the last couple major releases, my display resolution is detected correctly at 1280×800.
Wireless works, but I noticed sharp drops in signal strength a couple of times (may not be Ubuntu), and the WIFI LED now blinks during activity (which is distracting).
I’m really looking forward to 3G networking support built into network manager.
In conclusion, I hope all the issues I mentioned get attention, of course its still very early. If you want to test Ubuntu 8.10 alpha 3, get it here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha3.
Thanks
EDIT: Apparently the sound issue is caused by Pulse Audio defaulting to the PC speaker driver. Blacklisting the PC speaker driver (snd_pcsp) would get around this, until the bug is fixed.

Wait, so this alpha doesn’t yet have NM.07 integrated 3g yet? Until ubuntu supports this stuff easily and natively they will continue to loose ground to fedora.
Woah! You installed Linux with 1 Meg of RAM? I can’t even do that on my Atari Falcon! Good on ya!
@Anonyous @$$: LOL. Thanks for pointing out that typo. I’ve correct it.
